Alan Anthony Silvestri (born March 26, 1950) is an American composer and conductor who works primarily in film and television. He has frequently collaborated with Robert Zemeckis and composed the music for a lot of his films, including The Polar Express. He also, along with Glen Ballard, wrote all of the original songs for the film, one of which, "Spirit of the Season", he performed.
Early life[]
Silvestri's grandparents emigrated from Castell'Alfero, Italy to Teaneck, New Jersey in 1908 to raise a family. He grew up in Teaneck and attended Teaneck High School, afterwhich he studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts for two years. For a short time in 1966, he was a drummer in a Teaneck-based rock band, "The Herd."
