Trivia

• The story in the book differs slightly from that of the film:
  • Some scenes in the film are not included, which are also not in the original book. These include most of the events at Hero Boy's house at the beginning, the train passing by Herpolsheimer's, and the scenes at the Ice Lake and surveillance room.
  • The book says Billy told Hero Boy about where the Conductor and Hero Girl went, but in the film, he just looked at a window showing their shadow.
  • Hero Girl pulls the brake to stop the train before the caribou instead of Hero Boy.
  • The cotter pin comes loose from the brakes instead of the throttle.
  • The train stops before arriving at the North Pole Square.
  • The book says the Hobo helps Hero Boy stop the observation car, but in the film, he just shows him where the brakes are.
• When the Conductor punches the children's tickets for the return trip, the screenshot used is from earlier in the film when Hero Boy first meets the Conductor.
